Gross vs. net income — both figures, reconciled
You may see Estonia's income threshold quoted as either €4,500/month or €3,504/month, depending on the source — this isn't a contradiction. €4,500/month gross is the legal threshold; €3,504/month is the approximate net amount that has to actually show up in your bank statements once Estonian-equivalent deductions are accounted for. Bring bank statements and, for U.S. applicants, IRS tax returns covering the required 6-month period to satisfy either framing of the requirement.
No renewal, no permanent-residence path. This is one of the stricter routes covered here on both fronts: the visa is valid for up to 12 months and is not renewable — you must leave Estonia and submit a fresh application if you want to return, and this specific visa does not lead toward permanent residency or citizenship. If you're staying more than 183 days in a 12-month period, you may become an Estonian tax resident; consult a tax advisor.

Why work with BIZ TRP
The gross-versus-net income confusion trips up more applicants than any other requirement here — we make sure your documentation satisfies both readings before you submit.
- Income documentation. We help you assemble bank statements and income proof that satisfies both the gross and net framing of the threshold.
- Application channel guidance. We help you choose the fastest appropriate application channel — e-Visa portal, embassy, or in-country if already there.
- Reapplication planning. Since this visa isn't renewable, we help you plan ahead if you intend to continue living in Estonia beyond the first 12 months.
Common questions
Is the income threshold €4,500 or €3,504?
Both, describing the same requirement two ways: €4,500/month gross is the legal threshold, and €3,504/month is roughly the net amount that needs to actually appear in your bank account. We help you document either framing correctly.
Can I renew this visa or use it toward permanent residency?
No to both — the visa is valid for up to 12 months and isn't renewable, and it doesn't lead toward permanent residency or citizenship. If you want to continue living in Estonia afterward, you'd need to leave and submit a fresh application, or pursue a different route entirely.
What's different for U.S. applicants specifically?
The main difference is the criminal background check — U.S. citizens need an FBI background check apostilled by the U.S. State Department, plus IRS tax returns and bank statements as income proof, rather than an equivalent from a different national authority.
